Using skim milk and only a small amount of oil, this pie is both delicious and heart-healthy. This recipe yields 9 servings. Each serving contains: 169 calories, 7g total fat, 24 mg cholesterol, 207 mg sodium, 3g fiber, 5g protein, and 22g carbohydrates.

Ingredients

FOR CRUST:
1 cup quick-cooking oats
¼ cup whole wheat flour
¼ cup ground almonds
2 Tbsp brown sugar
¼ tsp salt
3 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 Tbsp water

FOR FILLING:
¼ cup brown sugar (packed)

1 cup canned pumpkin
⅔ cup evaporated skim milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 425°F.

PREPARE CRUST:

Mix oats, wheat flour, almonds, sugar, and salt in a small mixing bowl.
Blend oil and water in a cup (with a fork or small whisk) until emulsified.
Add oil mixture to dry ingredients and mix well. If needed, add small amount of water to hold the mixture together.
Press mixture into 9-inch pie pan. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until light brown.
Turn down oven to 350°F.

PREPARE FILLING:

Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
Add egg and vanilla. Mix to blend ingredients.
Add pumpkin and milk. Stir to combine.

PUT IT TOGETHER:

Pour filling into prepared pie shell.
Bake for 45 minutes at 350°F, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Successful entrepreneurs have uncomfortable habits, because they know that if they get comfortable, their business will suffer.

The comfort station is one of complacency, plateau, or temporary halt in progress. Are you where you want to be in your business sales, growth or marketing? How about your personal mindset growth?

What decisions have you made to start a business, develop your business or alter current operating methods to achieve your end results? What actions do you need to take?

To be in the "uncomfortable zone" is a zone of growth, challenge, and spirals to different levels of business success.

If you are actively doing things which are falling into a good routine, you are actually not doing enough. It is only when you are challenged, that you are will have a growth spurt.

The degree of the challenge can vary from a ‘tiny shifting’ to a ‘drastic overhaul.’

Take action by filling in the blanks:

Ask yourself, “What isn’t working?” ____________________________________.

What outcome am I looking for? ____________________________________.

Who can I ask for outside advice, or counsel? ____________________________________.

A couple of things to keep in mind when using social media to leverage success:

Content is King. Think like your customer. What information is your customer searching for? What key words do you need to include on your blog or video to help your business client find your information?

2. Write like you speak. Don’t let your material become too technical or boring.

Let us find your personality in the article. The way you write is as unique

as your fingerprint.

3. Develop your Network. Follow and respond to others, reply to comments

made on your blog or social site, and build relationships.

Starting a Small Business in 2011

Timing in life is everything....Are you ready to start a small business and be a business owner for the year 2011? It's an exciting time to begin a new future.

The McDowell OB/GYN & Sugar Hill Primary Care had a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to celebrate the new building built to accommodate the growing need for primary care in McDowell County.

The event was celebrated with speeches, introductions, tours, and horde ours. Even Santa came, bringing his trustworthy elf!

Mayor Steve Little, CEO & President Edward Hannon, Rod Birdsong, Director of McDowell County Chamber of Commerce, many McDowell Hospital staff and friends were in attendance of the ceremony!

McDowell Hospital Celebrated a Historic 25-Year Time Capsule Event!

A 25 Year Time Capsule was opened at The McDowell Hospital on December 4, 2010, reports Doris Hullett.

Mayor Steve Little of McDowell County, Edward J. Hannon, President & CEO of The McDowell Hospital, Mr. Norman Guthrie, Annette Bryant, Dr. Nisha N. Patel, Dr. Moore, Karen Hannon, and many joyful staff and members of the community shared in the celebration of the 25 year opening of a Time Capsule, on December 2010.

Currently, The McDowell Hospital houses 65 beds in private rooms, expanded radiology, laboratory and physical therapy facilities. In the past 25 years, the current facility expanded to include the Health Plus Rural Health Clinic, fixed-base MRI, Business Services Building, Outpatient Physical Therapy Department at Corpening Memorial YMCA and renovated surgical and EMS departments.

Since July 2004, The McDowell Hospital in Marion and Mission Hospitals in Asheville entered into an agreement making TMH the third western North Carolina hospital in the Mission Health System network.

The McDowell Hospital's leading principles are to provide strong leadership and service to the McDowell community. McDowell's current leadership, physicians and staff strive to honor that guiding spirit!

The Opera Company of Philadelphia, PA showed up at Macy's with 650 opera singers and sang the
Hallelujah Chorus. THIS is awesome.

A wonderful friend of mine, Terry, sent this to me... it was mentioned that shoppers were taken by surprise, but many cheered, teared up and even raised their hands and started praising the Lord. They called it "a random act of culture". We need more random acts of culture. You'll be blessed.

By the way, I heard the Wanamaker Organ is a permanent fixture in Macy's - you'll see a
quick picture of it at the beginning of the video. It is gorgeous!

Did you Focus On Your Business Mindset Today?

Things to consider for your ‘Business Mindset’:

I. Where do you want to be?

II. Where do you want to go?

III. Have you written your goals down? Is there a poster above your desk with everything you want, displayed on it?

· You must write it to achieve it. Not ‘intend it’.

· You need to ‘see’ your goals visually written out before you begin your day, and before you go to bed. All business leaders should create an art/sketch/graphic/photo display board of your goals. See it – believe it. What is within you needs to come out – create it.

· Verbalize what is on your ‘vision’ board – with feeling.

IV. Where do you “See” yourself? Focus so that you don’t get run over (by others, or self....procrastination, etc.)

V. You are the Bar. Set the bar Higher (!)

VI. Be a goal achiever, not just a goal getter.

VII. What are you looking to accomplish?

VIII. What are you laser focused on, and currently commit yourself to achieve?

IX. Your business is just that…a Business. Do not treat it as a hobby. It is your job and duty to assist others with what you have to offer.

X. Settle for nothing less.

I had the privilege of interviewing Gregg Davison of Carbon Copy Pro, to ask a couple of key questions regarding the mistakes beginning network marketers make in internet marketing, and the #1 tip for becoming an Entrepreneur?

Mistakes that Beginning Marketers Make in Internet Marketing:

One. Beginning marketers don’t work hard enough on themselves.

You have to work hard on yourself to be effective in marketing; you need to have a lot of value and become a person of value.

Becoming a person of value means working hard on yourself: mindset, millionaire mindset, self-belief, authority, and posture.

Two. Roll up your sleeves and get to work!

Beginners get caught up in ‘analysis paralysis.’ It sounds contradictory; you have to study, but you also have to apply and take action. Learning-learning-learning and never doing…it’s like learning to swim from a book; it doesn’t work.

Review: October 27, 2010 Another terrific MeetUp by the Asheville Business Connections, Asheville, NC occurred! Networking with this local group was unique in that we had a much more one-on-one with members for the month of October!

Previous months have engaged a very full house at Chef Mo’s of Asheville, NC. On this particular day we had a smaller business group, intimate, and also unique. Here’s a brief video update by the ABC MeetUp:

In addition to elevator speeches of one’s business, there was an opportunity for thankfulness, and the drawing of one card ‘from the box.’ The business owner whose card was drawn from the box was given the floor to seek brainstorming ideas from the ABC Meetup. Everyone benefits from each other’s business experiences.

My card was drawn, and I was able to receive very constructive assistance from the masterminding of all!

Problems are Confronted:
One of my question revolved around ‘what is recommended for closing skills regarding offline, traditional marketing.?’ A few suggestions for my business which I wanted to share, included:

l) Get to the heart of the person’s needs
2) Ask questions to your prospects, and their own answers will surface; follow their

Autumn Comfort Recipe Homemade Shepherds Pie and Pumpkin Snack

Do you love Autumn and all the seasonal changes? How about the change in foods that we associate with that cozy, warm sense of well being that we feel from the familiar seasonal change to Autumn?

With the arrival of Autumn, changing seasons, the kitchen becomes the place to gather around for home. Comfort foods like favorites Shepherd’s Pie, are enjoyed.

Eighteenth Century peasant housewives in the north of England and Scotland invented this old favorite pie, named for the mashed potato topping that is fluffed to resemble the fleece of sheep.

After carving your pumpkin, save the pumpkin seeds for a sweet nutty snack, and savor the season as we embrace the changing season!

Old-Fashioned Shepherd's Pie4 to 5 large potatoes, prepared as mashed potatoes
3/4 lb. ground beef (or meat or poultry of choice)
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 to 1 Tbsp. olive oil
3 large cloves garlic, chopped
1 cup fresh, canned, or frozen whole-kernel corn (or vegetable of choice)
1/2 c. beef broth (or liquid of choice)
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Paprika (other herbs, as desired)

Prepare mashed potatoes according to your favorite recipe.
Warm the olive oil in large frying pan and sauté onions and garlic over medium heat for about 2 to 4 minutes.

Add ground beef. Stir and turn frequently, until meat is cooked. Remove from heat and drain excess grease. Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, if desired. Stir well.

Place meat into a medium-sized casserole dish. Top with frozen corn, uncooked. Spread mashed potatoes over top, and sprinkle with paprika. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, until edges turn golden.

Cut into eight portions. Serve with hard, crusty bread and a green salad.

Warm, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Whole pumpkin
1 Tbsp. olive oil
Sea salt and other seasonings, as desired

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut open the pumpkin. Use a sturdy metal spoon to scoop out the inside. Separate the seeds from the stringy core, and rinse seeds well.

Spread olive oil on the bottom of a roasting pan, and spread the seeds out in one layer. Bake on the top rack for 10 to 12 minutes, until seeds begin to brown. When browned, remove from oven and let cool on a rack.

Depending on taste, you can crack to remove the inner seed or eat whole. Seeds can be seasoned with sea salt, sugar, cayenne pepper, garlic powder or curry. Another variety would be to sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar.

A Review of Todd Falcone's "The Best Compensation Plan in Network Marketing" by Doris Hullett. I would have to call this video by Falcone as the "Funnies in Network marketing."

Sometimes you come across some funny things in Network Marketing, and as a business woman who markets, I just love this post by Todd Falcone; it is hilarious. Todd is a Master prospector, and he comes up with some pretty funny scenarios, because they happen to be so true.

Falcone's video post on how networkers prospect really depicts how we all faithfully believe we have the best product. Well, who doesn't? We love the product; we just have to be careful not to over do it, in our enthusiasm to the point of pitching to other people.

Luckily, our family still loves us. Our best friends...well, they are hanging in there...barely.

Consider it a funny learning curve, because you will laugh (later after you've agonized).

Networking CAN be fun, and as you get better at speaking to people (practice, practice, practice), you'll realize you are having fun. What happens when you are having FUN?   It's no longer WORK. Isn't it great to be paid for having fun? The ideal career.

So, we just have to put in a little practice.

When I was teaching Language Therapy as an Instructor in the Community College System, my Orton Dyslexic Master Teacher and mentor, JoAnn, would reiterate to the Language Instructors that we had to impart to our students, namely, "Practice doesn't make perfect; practice makes permanent."

Think about that for a second. There is no "perfect" because you have to be flexible and "in the moment". There is constant change around us. Every situation is different. If you were perfect for the ideal situation, the next situation that came along would knock you down again, because it wouldn't be applicable to the moment.

But....practice makes permanent. Yes, you can achieve some permanent fundamental skills through practice that remain with you no matter what genre of skill:   language therapy, musical instruments, professional sports, and communication skills when it comes to speaking to others.

Because so many people have found it a challenge speaking to others, as well as how to market correctly, Todd has created Home Study course products to help you develop those fundamental skills permanently. Networking: Clear Channel Asheville Presents Host Jonas Gerard – Asheville Painter

Business building: meeting Chamber member abstract artist Jonas Gerard was absolutely inspiring!

Jonas Gerard hosted the ‘After Business Hours’ Chamber of Commerce Event in his studio on Clingman in the River Arts District.

Not only was it wonderful to build business relationships through the Chamber of Commerce, but to also find some of the same friends attending meetings hosted by the LinkedIn Asheville Meetings, as well as the Meetups in Asheville!

It was a pleasure to meet familiar faces and new faces at the Networking Event. Hello to Robert Baber, Patricia Slattery, Lawrence Hines, Bill Conkis, Brian Vasilik, Amanda Jasinowski, Stephanie Weil (who I met from LinkedIn!) and Dana Stonestreet, CEO of HomeTrust Banking!

As a person meanders through Jonas’ Fine Art Studio, one discovers all his treasured art displays speaking to you boldly, softly, and beautifully. Gerard’s work could be considered “Intuitive Painting”. He describes it as 'feeling colors, and hearing colors.'

Music is one means of creating his sincere painting. "The music does the painting." "Paint here says the music," and so that is where he dabs the next color, he explained in an Artizen FineArts video. Dancers and live musicians who perform at events also help him create his best work when in front of live audiences.

This “unsafe zone” creates discovery, because he is put ‘on the spot’. This liberating discovery zone is where creative energy comes alive on canvas. As a true artist, he HAS to paint. It calls him.

5. How do you work, or what are your methods for acquiring money? You can do it here as an Entrepreneur, or on a job Think about it. “In your daily job, don’t you realize you still have to learn new skills, learn Randy’s job, and get a 5% pay cut.” Good deal. Rewards in network marketing through MLM or Direct Sales, however, can outweigh your job’s rewards.

To conquer your fears, your SIMPLE Game Plan is to…
l. Make the commitment and decide.
2. Work on your skills.
3. Take action by prospecting while following your business system
4. Stay consistent and FINISH what you started!
5. Your commitment is until…until? You are so “IN” that there is “NO OUT!” Until you succeed.

There is no BOOMERANG MARKETING! You “Get” the Business! Initiate, get information, put your prospect in front of a webinar and follow up.

Most people’s greatest struggle is what? Signing someone up in the business. Why? Because we fear failure, being rejected, and not knowing what to say to our prospect.

“What DO you say?”

If you follow a script, however, it’s a starting point to empowering yourself and your downline--especially for the beginner. As you deal with your new business, you are probably asking yourself the following questions:

“Is this real?”
“Can I do it?”
“Who do I talk to?”
“What do I SAY!”
